What one eats is what one is. Lately, it has been observed that the tendency to indulge in inappropriate food habits have increased manifold. If these tendencies are not corrected at the right time they may lead to many lifestyle diseases and increase the chances of chronic diseases.
The most common habit that is observed in people all around the world is skipping of the most important meal of the day that is breakfast. A large portion of the population does not eat breakfast at all or have improper breakfast. Breakfast is the most significant meal of the day. As the name suggests it is indeed breaking of the night long fast. Breakfast is essential for the bodily functions such as metabolism and it enhances the overall performance of a person. A breakfast should not be very heavy, but should be very nutritious. Good amount of all the essential nutrients should be present in the first meal of the day.
It is also important to follow the food pyramid. We all have been learning about it from are school days, but few of us have truly understood the true meaning of the pyramid. Build the foundation of your daily eating plan with a good number of servings from the bread, cereal, rice & pasta group. The diet should comprise of vegetable servings at least 3 to 5 times each day. It is always a treat to enjoy 2 to 4 servings from the fruit group as part of your daily diet. But restrict your selection of milk, yogurt and cheese to just 2 to 3 items each day. Get protein from the meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs & nuts
through 2 to 3 servings every day. Finish up daily diet plan with fats, oils and sweets, but only in humble quantities.
The trends in favor of junk food have indeed caused a downward health spiral. Increased consumption of fast food has depleted the quality of life. The junk food includes aerated drinks, pizzas, burgers, wafers etc. These foods are high in sugar content which creates a fluctuation in energy levels. At one moment you may feel energized and elated the very next moment you could feel lethargic and depressed. Next time instead of reaching for a can of soda try fresh fruits and instead of a slice of pizza munch upon salads and fruits. Never stack the kitchen cupboard with junk food, they will always stop you from kicking your diet food addiction. It is essential to get rid of these unhealthy food habits and resort to more salubrious diet for a fitter self.
