Almost all of us who are eager to lose a few pounds are either tempted to or have already used different weight loss products. But are you really aware of the consequences that these products have on your long term health?
Probably not. You are eager to lose weight and are taken in by the hyper-promising product descriptions. Fast, effortless and healthy ways of losing weight - this is how most of the product descriptions read. But a very important factor most of these products overlook is long term sustainability.
Losing weight, as many would know, is not difficult. Many diet programs starve your body making it lose weight, but you also lose vital nutrients, stamina and strength. The feeling of new found health is only temporary and you soon begin to feel the general lack of energy and wellness.
The most prominent of such weight loss products are dietary patches, magnet pills, electric muscle stimulators and appetite suppressing eyeglasses and tablets etc. This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ineffective and useless weight loss products.
There are numerous other ultra and mega products which are touted as herbal, exotic or are given many other exotic labels. Many of these contain the appetite suppressant PPA (phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride) which is effective in the short term but does not hold off weight gain over a longer period of time.
The other oft-used ingredient is ephedra which results in serious side effects, such as chest pain, heart attack, restlessness and increased blood pressure among others. FDA has taken action to limit the use and dosage of both these elements. While most of these assure not to have many prohibited elements, there are many lesser known evils too. For example, the weight loss products market is flooded with Chitosan, Chromium and Glucomannan supplements among others. Not all of these ingredients have been properly analyzed yet. That is why you have to be careful that you don’t trade too many side effects for weight loss.
There are also numerous weight loss programs which vend shakes, powders and liquids etc. while most of these products are effective in the short term; they tend to lose effect over a period of time. That is why no matter which program you choose, you should never sacrifice long term health over short term benefits.
